Awakening a Listed Home
Crooms Hill
A sensitive restoration and extension of a four-storey Grade 2 Listed house and coach house in Greenwich, London.
Threefold Architects has designed a scheme that seeks to sensitively restore and refurbish the upper floors of the house, reorganise the master suite and create a formal dining and drawing room at ground floor. The lower ground floor is opened up across the full length of the plan to create a large family kitchen and dining area extending to a living room in the enlarged sunken courtyard at the rear of the house. A minimal glass lantern encloses the space maximising the natural light and retaining a sense of the original courtyard.
The structural envelope of the coach house is restored with new openings increasing natural light and creating a visual connection with the garden and the house beyond. An expressly separate modern invention in the form of a single core element combining the stair, kitchen, and bathroom, is inserted and will create flexible surrounding spaces including a garage and guest studio across two floors.
The project is due to start on site in August 2011.
