A Honeycomb Pavilion
Fentiman Road, London
Threefold Architects were commissioned by a private client to design a new pavilion in the garden of an existing family home in South London in 2007. The pavilion houses a swimming pool, small painting studio and steam room.
The three spaces are unified by a lightweight honeycomb roof structure that hovers delicately above modulating the light in the different spaces according to their requirements. It frames views of the sky in the pool, creates diffused light in the artist’s studio and dramatic contrasts and a subterranean feel to the steam room.
The glazed screen walls of the pavilion can be fully retracted into the ground to open the pool up to the garden.
