Look Out Perch
Harrington Airfield Installation, Northamptonshire
Threefold Architects designed this site-specific installation on the grounds of Harrington Airfield in Northamptonshire. The location was once the home of Second World War 'Carpetbaggers', a regiment specialising in covert operations behind enemy lines. It then took on the identity of a Cold War missile base. Now, it exists only as a disparate collection of concrete blast walls, bunkers, and redundant machinery abandoned in the middle of the surrounding farmland.
The Look Out Perch is an installation, which responds to the brooding menace and otherworldly qualities exuded by the site. A place to observe the surroundings, the perch takes the form of a new layer of machinery and is suggestive of a control point to reactivate the ghosts of hidden workings that still lurk beneath.
